Greece Plans Handling of Syrian Refugees

syria_apognosi_ereipia-630x440The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos led a meeting to discuss how to deal with what it expected to be an influx of Syrian refugees with the United States seeming ready to launch a missile strike against the government for using chemical weapons.
According to the announcement of the Ministry of National Defence, “The topics examined during the meeting are the actions for the coordination of the capabilities of the individual actors, the ways of adressing the potential situations that will affect Greece in the case of deterioration of the crisis in Syria.”
Specifically, the participants discussed the possibility of activation of the plan of safe transportation of Greek citizens from Syria, as well as the the management of large numbers of refugees from Syria who will possibly enter Greece.
Among the participants was the Foreign Affairs Secretary General Ambassador Anastasios Mitsialis; the Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior Michail Kosmidis; the General Secretaries of the Ministry of Health, Angeliki Panagaina, Panagiotis Efstathiou, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Shipping Athanasios Bousios and other ministry officials.
