Oresteiada: 400 Illegal Immigrants on Hunger Strike

tromaktikoFour hundred illegal immigrants living in detention centers of Oresteiada, Greece, have gone on a hunger strike since the morning of August 29.
According to the movement United against Racism and Fascist Threat, the detainees rose up after an announcement released by the detention center administration which said that their custody will be extended to 18 months. The immigrants expressed their discomfort as most of them have been in the detention center for more than a year.
“Soufian, a refugee from Syria, has gone on a hunger strike a week now, something that made him faint on Wednesday and was taken to the hospital. According to the movement, Alois from Iran has sewed his mouth since Thursday. They just ask for one thing: their freedom.”
