Boutaris Recites Cavafy For Oasis

pic-0-normThe Rehabilitation Centre Oasis in Thessaloniki on Sept. 20 will present a music performance featuring the works of one of Greece’s greatest poets, the C.P. Cavafy- By Heart and Singing from the group Cavafy of Ano Syros.
As 2013 has been declared  the Year of Cavafy, marking the 150th anniversary of his birth in Alexandria, Egypt the group will perform its 40th performance of this work, including 11 songs written by  Greek composers based on the poetry of Cavafy.
The poems will be recited, including by Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris, to the music of Manos Chatzidakis, Dimos Moutsis, Evanthia Reboutsika, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Dimitris Papadimitriou, Socratis Malamas, Christos Nikolopoulos and Babis Koulouras.
The performance will be directed by Babis Koulouras, with interpretations by Chrisoula Kehagioglu and Alexis Kostalas. The music performance has already played in 39 cities and towns around Greece, as well as in Alexandria of Egupt, in Istanbul and others. More performances are  scheduled to take place at the universities of Sorbonne and Harvard.
Boutaris is also one of the founders of the drug and alcohol rehabilitation center Oasis. Boutaris, son of winemaker Stelios Boutaris, had has experience with alcoholism.
