Beginning Sept. 1, Greek supermarkets, who are seeing sales plummet during a crushing economic crisis, will be allowed to sell expired food but must specially mark them so consumers are aware they are past the date by which they are fresh.
The goods will be cheaper than when they were good. The Athens Chamber of Tradesmen put out an announcement that certain foods will not be allowed to be sold after their expiry date, such as those that could go bad fast and pose a health hazard.
They must be distinctly separated from other products and that a label will be posted on them, informing the customers in capitals Products of Past Durability.
