Twenty percent of the residents in Aetoloacarnania, Greece, seem to have illegally received benefits from the state claiming disability for being deaf or blind. The fraud was revealed after the checks conducted by committees of KEPA. Those who did not present themselves for the check will have a last chance in September.
The Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Welfare announced that a percentage of 20.45% of those checked, was receiving this benefit illegally. The second checks were made by the committees of KEPA where it was found that among 44 people, nine were receiving the allowance illegally.
Also, a percentage of 27.38% of those examined for blindness were found to be receiving this benefit illegally. The re-checking was conducted by the KEPA committees for 336 people. The check showed that 92 of them had no disability to receive the allowance.
