Chania: World Council of Cretans, July 25-28

image.ashxThe heart of Cretan expatriates will beat in Chania, from July 25 to 28,  as the town’s Cultural Center will host the World Council of Cretans, which is organized in cooperation with the Regional Unit of Chania and local bodies.
The organizers point out that the conference addressing the general public of Cretan people, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Union of Crete with Greece and is entitled, The Cretans in the World. 1913-2013.
The works of the Conference will start on July 25 at 09.30 in the morning, while the official opening of the conference will take place at 7 in the evening of the same day by the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis.
The topics of the conference are the following:
Thursday, July 25: Presentation of the events for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Union of Crete with Greece, reports from the Federations of the World Council of Cretans, as well as from associations from different parts of the world and Greece.
Then follows the presentation of the work carried out in the universities and in the Research Institutions of Crete.
Friday, July 26: Issues relating to the economy, innovation, entrepreneurship, production and processing of local products, the cooperation of local businesses with Cretan businesses abroad, cultural heritage, tourism, infrastructure, the sources of wealth production in Crete and other issues on development in the light of the current economic crisis.
Saturday, July 27: The speakers will deal with the History of migration of Cretans and with migration as a modern phenomenon.
Sunday, July 28: Honorary events for those who fought for the Union of Crete.
In parallel with the main works of the Conference, a special program of works for the youth of expatriate Cretans has been organized.
