China Shows Petrified Trunk In Lesbos

01A petrified trunk of a conifer tree from China, which is estimated to date back to the Jurassic geological period (that extends from 159 to 200 million years ago), is permanently exhibited at the special exhibition section The Evolution of Life at the Hall of the Petrified Forest Museum in Sigri of Lesbos.
The petrified trunk was given to the museum as a gift by Zhang Suzhi, Deputy Mayor of the town Yanqing, during her recent visit to Lesvos and is now accessible to all visitors of the Museum.
This important exhibit constitutes a relatively recent scientific discovery and represents the flora of the dinosaur era.
During the Jurassic period, the region of Beijing was wooded, as proven by the important number of petrified trees that were discovered and by the numerous footprints of different  species of dinosaurs, that have been preserved and cover  herbivores sauropods, as well as many carnivorous species.
Thanks to the importance of the findings, Yanqing Petrified Wood National Geopark constitutes one of the most visited geo-parks in China.
