Charges Neighbors Stole 1M Euros From Old Woman

thumb_640_473_355Officials on the southeastern Aegean island of Kalymnos are investigating what could the embezzlement of as much as 1 million euros ($1.3 million) from the estate of a 90-year-old woman days after she died.
The case, reported in the local newspaper Rodiaki, said that the woman’s relatives have lodged complaints to prosecutors.
According to the paper, the old woman, the last couple of years before she died in December 2012 had health problems and without relatives to help her was being cared for by a foreign woman.
Some time later, it was said a couple of neighbors started to approach the old woman. Those neighbors did everything that was needed to show the 90-year-old woman that they care about her resulting in her firing the foreign woman. The old woman was then under the exclusive care of her neighbors who managed her money.
According to her relatives, the 90-year-old had a 15,000-square meter of land, a house, an office in Athens, jewelry, diamonds as well large deposits in euros and dollars in different banks. In addition, her brother had sent to her account 250,000 euros to cover her expenses.
The relatives undertook a series of actions and ask for the neighbors’ bank accounts to be opened and be prohibited to them to leave the country until the case is closed and solved by the justice.
