While Greece is looking forward to a record 17 million visitors this summer, Greeks buried under three years of austerity – with more coming – will find themselves sitting on the balcony or hanging around the house for a vacation.
A survey conducted by INKA (General Federation of Consumers in Greece) found that 73 percent of Greeks, up 4 percent from last year, won’t be taking a holiday, mostly because they can’t afford it, the reason given by 73 percent of them.
The other reasons cited were job instability (20%), professional obligations and others (10%) . Of the 27 percent taking vacations, some 80 percent will limit it to five days.
The sea continues to satisfy the preferences of the vast majority of Greeks, with 80% of preferences, while the mountain is also a popular destination in relation to previous research, with 20% in the preferences of the Greeks.
Holidays abroad have fallen by 50%, while according to the estimations of INKA, the minimum cost for 15 days for a four-member family is about 2,700 euros, or $3,517.
