Police Tear-gas Protesting Teachers

pourgeioWithin an atmosphere of tension teachers continue protesting outside the Ministry of Education.
Teachers strongly protesting the mobility scheme invaded the courtyard of the ministry building in Maroussi, and the police who arrived on the scene started making use of chemicals.
Education Minister, Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos, pointed out to theĀ  OLME delegation that the government announced layoffs of thousands of teachers.
Earlier talking to Newsit, Nikos Papahristos, board member of OLME said, “This is an intolerable act of the Ministry of Education, given the fact that the government announced its intention even before the federation met with the Minister of Education and also this meeting was initiated by the leadership itself.”
When asked what would happen with the courses of 46 specialties which are suspended and if these courses will be taught by other teachers, Papahristos replied, “This cannot happen, the entire specialty is being suspended. Obviously these courses will not be taught.”
