Minister Dendias Finishes London Trip

dendiasThe Greek Minister for Public Order & Citizen Protection, Nikos Dendias conducted a three-day official visit to London, United Kingdom, which was completed on July 5, in order to discuss matters concerning migration and public security.

Dendias met among others with the UK Interior Minister, Theresa May, the Minister of State for Immigration, Mark Harper and the Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, Keith Vaz.

He visited Scotland Yard’s central offices, where he got informed about the way of functioning of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office. He also visited the Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) in Colnbrook and SOCA (Serious Organized Crime Agency), responsible service in the UK for dealing with serious crimes.

Shortly before he departed from Greece, Dendias stated: “I am particularly pleased of my visit in the United Kingdom. First of all, I am pleased of my contacts with Minister Theresa May and the Minister of State for Immigration, Mark Harper.” He added that, along with May and Harper, they agreed on the basic axes of migration and of matters of public security.

Previously, during a press conference he gave to Greek journalists, he pointed out that the relations between Greece and Great Britain are excellent, as well as the two countries’ perfect cooperation is on subjects that concern the Ministry of Public Order & Citizen Protection.

Dendias discussed with the interlocutors about the question of trafficking. He stressed out that at this moment they deal with the creation of a joint group in order to tackle with trafficking. He also pointed out that Britain is willing to help Greece, by providing both material-technical infrastructure and expertise. They also talked about illegal migration.
