Chania's Old Hospital Being Razed

015141E632E1678620C9763F22A7F91COn July 3 the works for the demolition of the building complex of the old hospital of Chania, Crete, began, starting with the old blood donation wing, to be completed in two months, much earlier than the time limits provides by the agreement (six months.) Every material that could be used again has already been cleared from the site.
The demolition of the old hospital, 13 years after it closed, marks the environmental upgrading of the area, but it will also change the health care map of Chania.
The hospital site will be used to house a modern urban health center which will also provide primary health care to the citizens, contributing at the same time to reducing the number of patients at the General Hospital of Chania which is located in Mournies district.
Chania Mayor Manolis Skoulakis, said that in mid-July the tender procedures of the project will begin in a part if the site, while the in the rest of the site green space and infrastructure for the residents will be constructed.
The National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) will fund the works for the construction of the new Health Center with a budget of 4,499,630 euros.
The package includes the demolition, new construction and a number of changes in the site, for 2.589 million euros and the supply of medical equipment and furniture of a budget of 310.63 million euros.
