According to official data released by Rhodes (Diagoras) Airport, tourist movement on the island increased significantly in June, while for the first time Russians topped the list of arrivals leaving behind the British and German, who used to come first for decades.
As it was announced on July 2, June was a very good month for tourism for the island of Rhodes and created an optimistic climate for the rest of the summer season. According to data released by Diagoras Airport, in June, 321,795 passengers in total arrived on the island by charter flights, while the same month last year their number was 271,718 passengers. So, there was a rise of 18.43 percent.
Russia made the big change as it recorded a rise of 67 percent. The number of Italian visitors also rose by 13.5 percent, which is also very encouraging.
Tourist agents in Rhodes estimate that this will be the best summer in the history of the island’s tourism. Despite the fact that arrivals have undoubtedly increased, the movement in the island’s market is low, which creates more problems to the businesses of Rhodes.
