Samaras’ New Cabinet a Lot Like “Deja Vu”

GREECE-IRELAND-DIPLOMACY-SAMARASIn an extended article, the Guardian commented on Greek Prime Minister Samaras’ first day in office with his newly installed team, having to deal among others, with a 48-hour strike of tax employees and Piraeus port’s privatization discussions, while also preparing for talks with creditors.

According to the article, Samaras along with his new cabinet, hopes to cope with the uncountable problems that crisis-stricken Greece is trying to struggle with at the moment, using a new tack.

After the sudden departure of the small Democratic Left party, DIMAR, from the coalition government, Samaras stressed that there was “not a moment to waste” in the battle to save the debt-stricken nation.

However, as stated, with DIMAR’S exit, the coalition is now comprised solely of figures from the two mainstream Greek political forces, New Democracy and socialist PASOK, both of which have caused severe damage to the Greek state.

Many are questioning these politicians that have already been tried and tested in how they could actually put Greece back on its feet. Especially the appointment of Adonis Georgiades as minister of health has spread great shock among all Greek citizens.

But despite all this, now really, who is so silly to believe the Greek government’s argument that Greece is on the road to recovery?

Indeed, many are those who support that it is just a matter of time before the crisis gets worse when the coalition is to be forced to take new measures in the autumn to avoid the collapse of the pension system.

The article concludes that with unemployment now at a record 27% and poverty soaring, the only way for Greece to be saved would be for its debt load to be somehow forgiven.
