Police said that a 41-year-old woman driving home her 16-year-old daughter from a party were killed, along with three of the girl’s school friends, when the car the woman was driving went out of control and tipped over after crashing into a parked car.
The accident happened in the early morning hours of June 21 in the northern Athenian suburb of Aghios Stefanos. Police did not say what caused the accident nor if any of the victims were wearing seat belts, which is required in Greece although usage is lax and enforcement rare.
Rescue workers called to the scene found that the car tipped over and determined it had hit the parked car, causing the flip. Police and the fire brigade rushed to the point in order extricate the victims who were taken to KAT Hospital where they were declared dead.
