Veteran Diplomat Stathatos Passed Away

Stathatos Stephanos Stathatos passed away on June 18 at the age of 91. The death of the honorary ambassador is a significant loss for the Diplomatic Service of Greece.
Stephanos Stathatos, was a distinguished career diplomat, with special training and a high sense of duty, who made a significant contribution to shaping Greeceā€™s foreign policy.
He served in Cairo, Washington and in NATO and the UN Permanent Representations. As a permanent representative of Greece to the European Economic Community (EEC), he made a decisive contribution to the accession of Greece to the EEC.
He also served as ambassador of Greece to Paris, London and the Vatican, and after his retirement he participated in high-level committees for the institutional reform of the European Union.
The entire leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all his colleagues expressed their deep condolences for the loss.
