Tio Ellinas in Formula 1

tromaktikoEftihios “Tio” Ellinas will be the first Cypriot to drive a Formula 1 car as for 2013 he will test more than once for the Marussia F1 Team.
On June 17 it was announced that 21-year-old Ellinas would carry out a scheduled straight line aerodynamic evaluation test session with the Marussia Formula One team at the Kemble airfield in Gloucestershire, England. In doing so, he will become the first Cypriot to drive a Formula One car. As a reward for being the highest-placed Marussia Manor driver at the end of the 2012 GP3 Series season, Ellinas will also take part in the 2013 Young Driver Tests with Marussia F1.
Ellinas, who is competing for the second year in the GP3 category, has already ensured that he will drive an F1 car in this year’s tests which will take place in Silverstone next month.
“Of course I am excited that I will have this additional chance to drive an MR02,” Ellinas said. “I was looking forward since last autumn to taking part in the tests for new drivers and the weeks will go by fast.”
“The chance to drive in the straight line test session this week will bridge the temporal gap until Silverstone. It will also make me ready for it, as I will be already acclimatized to the car’s systems and the team’s procedures.”
