Before Midnight opened the 3rd Athens Open Air Festival, the festival that fills parks, squares and pedestrians around central Athens with films and music. The two actors were accompanied by the trilogy’s director, Richard Linklater. The last movie was shot last summer in Messenia, Greece and was produced by a Greek company.
The premiere of the film was not screened at the outdoor movie theater cine Thisio as planned, but at the Pallas theater instead because of rain forecasts.
“Whatever we say about our cooperation with the Greek actors and the crew sounds so positive that we will sound like we are exaggerating,” Hawke said.
“We love Greek sites, the people, contemporary as well as ancient Greece. We wrote the script in Greece (the script was written by the director, Hawke and Delpy). In this essence, it is a Greek film,” Linklater said.
Hawke is in Greece with his family and staying at a central hotel in Athens giving interviews for the promotion of the film worldwide, before departing for a short vacation in the Peloponnese. Delpy will fly to Paris for the premiere of the film there.
