Greek Woman Murdered on Imbros

imbros1The society of Imbros is shocked by the murder of a 58-year-old woman, Sophia Sophianou, and the injury of her 29-year-old daughter, Panagiota Sophianou, who were allegedly shot by a Turkish woman.

According to the police, Fatma K. was against the relationship a relative of hers had with Panagiota.

The incident occurred on the night of June 7 at Schinoudi, Imbros. According to the newspaper Hürriyet, Fatma K. went to Panagiota’s home and started arguing with her, asking to break up at once with her relative. Panagiota’s mother, Sophia Sophianou, was also involved in the quarrel. The suspect, Fatma K. irritated, pulled out the gun she was carrying and began to shoot.

Sophia Sofianou was killed instantaneously, while Panagiota was seriously injured and taken to the public hospital of the island and from there to the hospital of Dardanelles by boat.

Fatma K. shortly after the incident, surrendered and confessed.
