Strawberry producers in South Manolada and Vouprasia are offering jobs to Greeks as strawberry pickers.
According to ilialive.gr, 4,160 workers are expected to submit an application to the Manpower Employment Organization (OAED) of Amaliada for the current and the new strawberry crops. The workers must be recruited by June 12 as time is pressing, according to sources on the producers’ side.
This solution of providing jobs to thousands of Greeks with a wage of around 25 euros per day for six hours a day and five-day work, has been found since there are obstacles to the legalization of a large number of foreign workers.
Minister of Labor, Social Security and Welfare, Yannis Vroutsis, and the head of the Manpower Employment Organization (OAED), Theodoros Ambatzoglou, are aware of the strawberry producers’ plan.
