Igoumenitsa Coast Guards Find Heroin in Van

iroini igoumenitsaA quantity of 15,9 kg of heroin was hidden in a camper van that would travel from the Greek port of Igoumenitsa to the Port of Ancona in Italy. Coast Guard officers and the Drug Enforcement Administration in Igoumenitsa found and confiscated the heroin on June 4.
In the fight against organized crime and during a routine check on the camper van, the hidden heroin was found in the van’s side walls.
A trained drug detection dog sniffed out additional packages in a hidden compartment beneath the refrigerator. A total of seven packages was confiscated.
The van driver is a 66-year-old Turkish man and his companion, a 20-year-old woman of Bosnian descent. Both were arrested, while the vehicle which was reportedly rented in Athens was confiscated. The Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa is conducting a preliminary investigation.
