Vice-Rector Cleared of iPhone Gift

pantisGiannis Pantis, vice-rector of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, has been accused of allegedly using university funds to buy an iPhone deviceĀ  to offer as a gift to actress Natalia Dragoumi.
A Thessaloniki court acquitted him over charges of breath of faith, as reported in Kathimerini newspaper.
While in court, Pantis blamed Giorgos Dimitriadis, the former commercial director of the Thessaloniki store where the mobile phone was allegedly purchased, saying that he was the one who made contacts with the actress.
ā€œI saw Natalia Dragoumi once. She was interested in promoting the Universityā€™s activities on a television show. The subject was not forwarded eventually,ā€ Pantis said. He added that he had refused to pay for the iPhone whose purchase had been arranged by the former commercial director.
ā€œI was just executing the vice-rectorā€™s orders,ā€ answered Dimitriadis, who was also acquitted by the court.
The court acquitted both defendants, as it judged that the university had not been harmed.
