Travel agents from Ekaterinburg, Russia’s fourth largest city, are looking for tourist destinations in Central Macedonia, Greece. The travel agents are in Thessaloniki with Russian journalists and Utku Yazan, director of Turkish Airlines in Thessaloniki.
The Russian travel agents are going to visit Chalkidiki and Pieria, as well as the most important cultural and religious monuments and sites in the region. They held a meeting with the governor for Central Macedonia Region, Apostolos Tzitzikostas and the vice-president of the Association of Travel Agencies of Macedonia and Thrace, Stefanos Chatzimanolis. The travel agents’ visit was organized by Turkish Airlines in cooperation with Central Macedonia Region to promote Central Macedonia in the Russian tourist market.
Tzitzikostas said during the meeting, “Central Macedonia Region is first in exports to Russia in Greece. We strengthen our bonds with Russia and develop bilateral cooperation,” In addition, he discussed with the Russian travel agents and journalists the prospects of supporting the tourist flow from Russia.
The travel agents and journalists talked about the growing interest of Russian tourists for Central Macedonia, something that led to the increase of direct flights from Russia to Greece.
