mitera_444_355_444_355The 11-year-old Russian boy who police said was stabbed by a 20-year-old Dutchman working at a holiday resort in Hersonissos, Crete, as a children’s entertainer is being hospitalized at the intensive care unit of the Children’s Hospital Aglaia Kyriakou.
Two of the 20 stabbings he received are the most severe, located in the spine between the seventh and the ninth vertebra. The blows affected the spinal cord which caused physical disability to the child’s lower limbs.
A group of three neurosurgeons performed an eight-hour operation that was completed at midnight on May 15. Despite their valiant effort, they did not manage to prevent disability. Fortunately, the child’s life is not in danger.
The boy’s mother is in a bad psychological condition and has received help by specialized doctors. She has not spoken to the press, and the Russian ambassador is constantly by her side.
The 20-year-old allegedly stole the victim’s mobile phone and laptop and attacked him when the boy found out and asked back for them. According to the Dutchman’s confession, he tried to kill the boy so he would not tell anyone about the stolen items. He thought the boy was dead and left him hidden in a corner and went back to his job. He even pretended to assist in the police search so that no one would suspect him.
The suspect, after making his plea on May 15 as part of the preliminary investigation at the Police Department of Hersonissos, was called to the Courthouse of Heraklion to face criminal prosecution.
