The Pan-Hellenic Association of Women Athletes Kallipatira, under the auspices of the Ministry of National Defense, awarded the mothers of the Greek Olympic Champions of Beijing and London, at the Thessaloniki War Museum, on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
The Minister of National Defense, Panos Panagiotopoulos attended the event and pointed out the need to “rally as Nation and as Greek community around the traditional values that have kept Hellenism upright during its most difficult moments of its history.” He praised the crucial contribution of the family and particularly of the mother to the athlete’s objectives achievement.
The Association Kallipatira awarded the mothers of the following Olympic Champions: Alexandros Nikolaidis, Vasileios Polymeros, Sophia Mpekatorou, Pigi Devetzi, Ilias Iliadis, Christina Giazitzidou, Alexandra Tsiavou, Dimitrios Mougios, Sofia Papadopoulou and Virginia Kravarioti.
Panagiotopoulos awarded Kallipatira’s President and Greek ambassador for sport, tolerance and fair play to the Council of Europe Aikaterini Nafplioti-Panagopoulos, with the Ministry of National Defense’s escutcheon.
Minister of Macedonia-Thrace Theodore Karaoglou, MP Thessaloniki A of New Democracy Georgios Orfanos, Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Mr. Anthimos, General Secretary of Sports Kyriaki Giannakidou, regional governor of Central Macedonia Apostle Tzitzikostas, Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Athanasios Tselios, Commander of the Third Army Corps / NRDC-GR, Lieutenant Nicholas Devetzis, as well as representatives of the local government attended the event.
