Shock has been caused by the new data released after drug-related investigations which actually demonstrate that every week some new narcotic substances come into circulation.
In 2011, the number of new and emerging drugs was ten times bigger than that of six years ago in Europe, while it seems that the phenomenon has spread in Greece as well, according to Sunday newspapers.
These substances are mostly camouflaged to escape being banned, while the purchase cost is now adjusted to the harsh financial situation that Europe is struggling with. Such cheap substances however, mean a much higher risk.
The main core of the new drugs in Greece is: synthetic cannabinoids, crystalline methamphetamine and hydroponic cultivation cannabis.
The fact that drug components are constantly changing enables manufacturers to actually pass them as legal. According to a UN investigation, more than 690 websites selling these substances were found.
