European Students Visit Folegandros

84444b6ca554db29ed103f1d138f639fSeventeen students from Estonia, Latvia, Turkey, Spain, Denmark and Belgium along with their teachers visited the island of Folegandros for one week, in the framework of the European Lifelong Learning Programs, Comenius.
Within the two previous years, Greek students had visited their countries and the last stop of the program was the Greek Aegean island. Seven schools from seven different European countries exchanged visits and students met each other, discovering new aspects of the multifarious “mosaic” of Europe.
During their stay on the island, the foreign students along with their teachers, attended the Greek Easter celebrations and enjoyed the sunny warm weather, the beaches and the sea. They accepted the hospitality of the local people and they enjoyed wine, raki, raki with honey, sweets and traditional delicacies. They were also taught some Greek words and expressions and now they are returning to their homelands carrying in their suitcases the Greek civilization and culture.
“When we started the trip from Estonia to Greece, the temperature was just 2°C, while in Folegandros the mercury touched almost 30°C. We are very happy because of the sun,” Krisli Lilium from Talinn, Estonia said just before departing.
Serdar Tunc, from the city Adıyaman of southeast Turkey, used a phrase from the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which was screened in the  Greek language course: “I can’t speak with beautiful phrases, so I’ll be a little more straight: We may be different but after all, we are all fruits”.
“It’s very nice to see the whole island mobilized for us. I hope we all take a little from the spirit of Folegandros with us in our countries and try to do more voluntary actions,” added Lies Offeciets from Antwerp, Belgium.
