Academy Award winner Tom Hanks could be adding Tony Award winner to his list of credits. The actor made his Broadway debut in Nora Ephron’s “Lucky Guy” when it opened to previews just two months ago, and now he’s nominated for his role in the play.

As tabloid columnist Mike McAlary, a Pulitzer Prize-winner who garnered national attention for his coverage of the corrupt New York police force during the 1990s, Hanks has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. In addition to Hanks’ nomination for Best Actor, “Lucky Guy” scored five other nominations, including Best Director of a Play and Best Play.

Hanks recently sat down with television host Piers Morgan to talk about his venture onto Broadway, and also discussed his 25-year marriage to Greek-American Rita Wilson, saying a part of why they’ve been together so long is her “great Greek heritage.”

“Lucky Guy” is playing at the Broadhurst Theater in NYC, and has just been extended through July 3. For more information, and to get tickets, visit luckyguyplay.com.

Tony Award winners will be announced when the ceremony airs Sunday, June 9 on CBS.
