International Andreas Vesalius Conference in Zakynthos

51KEA2AX49L._SL500_AA300_On the occasion of the five hundred years from the birth of the world-famous anatomist Andreas Vesalius, a conference will take place from September 4 to 8, 2014 in Zakynthos, where he died. The event was announced by the Consul of Belgium in Athens, Theo Dirix, in a press conference he gave to the media of Zakynthos.
Andreas Vesalius (31 December 1514 – 15 October 1564) was a Brabantian anatomist, physician, and author of one of the most influential books on human anatomy, De humani corporis fabrica (On the Structure of the Human Body). Vesalius is often referred to as the founder of modern human anatomy. He was professor at the University of Padua and later became Imperial physician at the court of Emperor Charles V.
The conference is co-organized by the Belgian School in Athens and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) at the University of Crete.
As Consul Dirix stated, many scientists from Europe and the world will participate in the conference. He added that the request for a student program between schools of Zakynthos and Belgium is pending.
