Greek And Turk Youth in Action

dsc010481In the framework of the European program, Youth in Action, with the subject, Steal a week from Life, eight students from Crete, 13 to 17 years old, visited Aydin, Turkey, accompanied by their teachers.

The students met eight children from the orphanage in Aydin, and children with family problems temporarily hosted in hostels. This action aims at helping children socialize and get to know the culture of another country.

At the orphanage, the children played, got to know each other better, and created a collage of photos of their countries. Then the students went on their first tour of the city, which ended in Tralles, the region’s ancient city, where a traditional Greek and Turkish dance night was jointly organized.

The next day the official presentation of the program, Steal a week from life, took place in an event hall in Aydin, in the presence of the local authorities, the students and their teachers. The children also visited the Nursing Home and the Music and Art School of Aydin.

During their stay in Aydin, they were guided around the House of the Virgin Mary, the archaeological site of Ephesus, an old Greek village called Kirkince, as well as Kusadasi and Izmir. The activities closed with an exhibition at the city’s shopping center, where the children exhibited paintings they had created in the Art School.
