Area Linked to 1821 Proclaimed Historical

BFDF9CC3B9B75EA696F63619EF73C323Following the positive and unanimous approval of the Greek Central Archaeological Council, which met the local community’s longstanding demand, the area in Arkadia has been proclaimed a historical site.
The area known as Trikorfa, the three mountain peaks in the eastern part of the Menalon range in Arcadia, in the Peloponnese, has left its mark on Greek history, as it is strongly linked to the country’s struggle for independence and the revolutionaries who led it before, during and after the Revolution of 1821.
Among the most important battles was the Orlov revolt of March 1770, and from April to September 1821, the region played an important role serving as headquarters for the revolutionaries during the siege of Tripoli.

Back in 1825, this area was the location where the battle of Trikorfa took place, among Greek revolutionaries led by legendary Theodoros Kolokotronis, and the Ottomans forces under Ibrahim Pascha, who emerged victorious.

The region remains pretty much unaffected by modern development and contains many 18th-century stone huts, widely known as tambouria, and the remains of a fortress tower dating from the 14th and 15th centuries.
