A 3.4-degree Richter scale tremor occurred Monday at 3:18am local time off the island of Crete.
The epicenter of the quake was 40 kilometers south-south-west of the city of Ierapetra, and its hypocenter was 5 kilometers below the surface, according to the Athens University Geophysics Institute. No damage to people or things was reported.
Lying on a fault, Greece is the most seismic country in Europe, with at least half of all continental earthquakes occurring within its territory.
