Crisis Puts Cypriot Students In Despair

tromaktiko3754Students in Cyprus are in high anxiety because of the country’s economic crisis that is seeing big bank deposits nearly wiped out and families left to figure out how to survive a growing recession.
Many families are in financial difficulties and cannot pay for the education of their children, especially those in college. As a result, many are those who are being forced to abandon their studies in order to relieve their parents.
The Pancyprian Federation of Students Union (POFEN) and student organizations have been asking help from private universities to immediately reduce their fees to help students complete their studies.
Private Universities’ Directorates have said from their side that although they had not reduced the fees, they have provided to students in need other ways of help. Scholarships and facility in the school fees payment were among them.
A large number of Cypriot students that study abroad are also in difficulty, as the family budget has totally and suddenly changed due to the crisis in the island.
