The Greeks of New South Wales created a Greek Committee in the NSW Labor party, under the presidency of George Houssos, the former President of NSW Young Labor.
“Today is the best period to have the Greek-Australian voice heard. Our aim is to secure that Greek-Australians’ needs will be constantly at the forefront and that their satisfaction will be urgently projected to decision making in politics. Furthermore, we object to provide a network of contacts and chances for new activists”, Houssos stated.
“We wish to create an organization that will play an active role in the formation of political programs in both the community and the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and, if necessary, to dynamically raise our voice to the ALP if we judge that its policy is not the right one”, Houssos noted.
The new president pointed out that the committee has an eye on Greece, wanting to examine in which way Greek-Australians can provide help to their countries of origin –Greece and Cyprus- to overcome the current financial difficulties.
