Thessaloniki Jews Commemorate Deportation by Nazis

jewsOn March 15, 1943, the first train to Auschwitz left Thessaloniki, taking about 2, 800 Jews from the city. In memory of the first Holocaust victims from Thessaloniki, memorial events will take place in the city titled, Never Again. Thessaloniki – Auschwitz. 70 years after the departure of the first train.
The memorial events include:
A march, on the morning of March 16, that will begin at Eleftheria Square, where the first anti-Jewish measures took place in 1942 , and will end at the old train station from where the trains to Auschwitz departed.
The photography exhibition, Thessaloniki: the flower of the Balkans, under the care of the Yad Vashem Foundation.
The Sephardic music concert, Jewish Soul, by The City of Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra in commemoration of the 50, 000 Jews of Thessaloniki that were killed by the Nazis.
The projection of the film by Vassilis Loules, Kisses to the Children. The film is about the story of five Greek-Jewish children who were saved by Christian families during the German Occupation.
All the events are organized by the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, the Embassy of Israel, the World Jewish Congress and the AUTH, under the auspices of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. The photograph exhibition is under the patronage of the Embassy of Canada in Greece.
