egeanAegean Airlines now flies from Kalamata to nine international destinations. The company’s new operational base is added to Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Corfu, Rhodes and Kos. The opening took place on March 10 at the Captain Vasilis Constantakopoulos airport with the arrival of the first direct flight from Munich.
Among the 100 passengers was Eftichios Vassilakis, Aegean’s vice president and Achilleas Konstantakopoulos, member of the Administrative Board.
By May, there will be flights to four destinations in Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Rostov), two destinations in Sweden (Stockholm and Gothenburg), one in Germany (Munich), Israel (Tel Aviv) and Ukraine (Kiev).
At the official opening, Vassilakis said:  “Kalamata is now the 7th Aegean Airlines operational base, established in recognition of the impressive power of investment and the efforts of the various agencies involved, and the prospects for tourism in Messinia and the Peloponnese in general.  Moreover, thanks to the Costa Navarino, Messinia is the first region in Greece to be opening for visitors from the beginning of March, and thereby extending the annual tourist season.”
