Avramopoulos Upbeat About Greece’s Economy

Avramopoulos_CanadaDuring Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos’ visit to Canada, the newspaper Ottawa Citizen published his interview regarding recovery plans for Greece’s economy.

He said that the current Greek crisis in 10 years from now, will be “a memory which will act as a deterrent to repeating the mistakes of the past and will help us create a more secure and prosperous future.”

Avramopoulos foresees that Greece within the next five years will have reshaped its structures and will have set a strong foundation for sustainable development based on competitiveness and fiscal accountability. He noted that the austerity measures are necessary, but in order to be successful, they have to be accompanied by investments that will lead to economic growth.

Avramopoulos also said that the Greek government is busy with the promotion of foreign investments, noting that the Greek economy has dramatically improved in the last months. He said that Greece has made noticeable progress in reducing the deficit and he hopes that the country will soon have a surplus.

He invited Canadians to visit Greece for their summer holidays and urged Canadian companies to invest in Greece saying that he wants Canada to be a major factor in the new developing Greek economy.
