Athens’ Law school has been honored with the trophy of the Best Newcomer team within the framework of the 8thInternational Commercial Mediation Competition (ICC), having its university students being chosen among the most experienced teams from renowned institutions abroad.
The competition was held from Feb. 8-13 in Paris in which more than 500 university students, 100 professional mediators and 66 universities from 31 countries throughout the world, participated.
Students were invited to put their negotiation and mediation advocacy skills to the test by applying the ICC Amicable Dispute Resolution (ADR) Rules in mock cases conducted by some of the world’s leading professional mediators. According to Ethnos newspaper, within five days of exhaustive mediation, the Greek team managed to take over four cases.
Each group represented one of the two “adversary” companies, which in order to resolve their dispute resorted to mediation under the terms of the ICC. In each round, the team of students participated with two representatives as the negotiating parties, while the whole procedure was run by an experienced professional mediator.
The Greek team received excellent reviews from the judges for both its preparation and readiness to react with confidence and insight into emerging issues. The team included Faidonas Varesis, Chloe Iorsanidou, Irene Kikarea and Athanasios Tasopoulos under the supervision of Assistant Professor in Private Law and mediator accredited by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Antonios Karampatzos, as well as with the contribution of Apostolos Yannakoulias an Athens’ lawyer accredited by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
