Karolos Koun Theater Awards 2013

theatrika-vraveiaThe Karolos Koun Theater Awards 2013 and the Critics Theater and Music Awards for 2012 ceremony was held on Feb.12, at the Athens Concert Hall in the Dimitris Mitropoulos hall.
The ceremony was opened by the Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis, who referred to the importance of culture and the theater. Kaminis said: “Looking at the nominations in all the categories, I can say that the field of culture and arts is the only one to be profitable for the country.”
Yiannis Kakleas and Stathis Livathinos shared the Greek film director’s Karolos Koun award. Yiannis Kakleas got the award for Jacob Kambanellis’, The Yard of Miracles, which was presented at the Main Stage of the National Theater, and Livathinos for directing Erotokritos written by Vitsentzos Kornaros, which was performed at the Main Stage of the Acropol Theater.
Actress Betty Livanou was awarded for her performance in Papadiamantis’s The Murderess, directed by Stathis Livathinos, which was  presented at the Theater of Cephalonia Street.
The Drama Acting Award was given to actors Eleni Rantou, Sara Ganoti and Nick Stavrakoudis for the highly successful performance My Convict, a modern humorous performance describing the present Greek reality.
Apart from the awards, Dimitris Dimopoulos was honored with an accolade for his theatrical Hello Aida, which is based on Giuseppe Verdi’s opera, Aida. The Grand Theatre Award was given to Vassilis Papavassiliou, for directing the play Koutroulis Wedding, which means a luxuriously crazy wedding.
