Greece First in Opiate Addiction Care

kanaAn assessment in care provided to patients with opiate addiction, brought Greece to the first place among 10 European countries.
The EQUATOR study (European Quality Audit of Opioid Treatment) leads to the qualities of providing medical treatment of opioid addiction, and was conducted in 10 European countries, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the UK. More than 3,000 participants took part, including doctors, patients on replacement, and non replacement therapy.
Greece, along with Portugal, get lower rates of drug misuse and diversion of drug addiction treatment,  ranging below 10% (5% for Greece and 8% for Portugal), while in Austria rates are 49% and 51% in Denmark. Greece has the highest respondents’ sample, and also has high rates of informing patients about the types and treatment programs of drug addiction.
According to “Europad organization”, Opioid-dependence treatment varies between countries despite the underlying condition being similar. The  EQUATOR survey covered topics including treatment goals, knowledge and experience of treatment, drug use, misuse and diversion,  employment and prison experience.
