Thassos Port Work Will Cost $9.5M

limenaria_ThasouThe ongoing construction of the tourist boat shelter in Limenaria of Thassos is expected to cost about 7.1 million euros ($9.5 million) and will eventually about 70 vessels. The project is incorporated in the Operational Program Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship of the Ministry of Development, Competitiveness and Shipping and must be completed within 36 months.
The work is expected to contribute to the development of tourism of Greece and especially in the region of Macedonia. “The shelter for tourist vessels in Limenaria of Thassos includes this region on the global map of high-level tourism,” said Eastern Macedonia-Thrace Prefect Aris Giannakidis.
Limenaria is the second largest settlement of the island and one of the major ports of the municipality. The tourist resort is under construction and is located  in the western part of the existing port. It is expected to serve the shipping route around the whole axis of North Aegean.
At the same time, the shelter will operate as a yachts station for the circumnavigation of the island, as well as the sea route that runs along the coastline of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace connecting the islands of Limnos and Samothrace to the islands of Lesvos and Chios.
