Eleven Greeks Honored on Australia Day

1A7BDE939F736FFBFE549273003AC16CAustralia has honored 11 Greeks for their services to the nation and Diaspora Greeks. They were among 571  people celebrated on Australia Day for their contributions to society.

Among them was former foreign minister Alexander Downer, who is now a special adviser to the UN Secretary General.

Helen Zorbas received the most important award for directing a number of national cancer control initiatives to improve evidence-based practice, policy and health service delivery, in both the clinical and psycho-social aspects of cancer care. Zorbas was honored for her special contribution to these researches.

The other Greeks who were honored were: Nikolaos Georgios Papas, Georgios Karpis, Nikolaos Begakis, Gillian Cavendish Nikaki, Diogenis Patsouris, Georgios-Christoforos Peponis, George Lazaris, George Papadopoulos, Panayiotis Gianoudis, Pavlos-Ioannis Bellas.
