Paphos, Cyprus is going to be the European Capital of Culture for 2017, beating out Limassol and the island’s capital of Nicosia. The selection came four months after a selection panel made its recommendations.
Jacob Bundsgaard, the mayor of the Danish city of Aarhus in Denmark, also a European Capital, has received an invitation from his counterparts on Paphos to visit and exchange views and ideas about the upcoming collaboration, according to a press release.
Two months ago, the mayor of Paphos, had a meeting with a delegation from Aarhus in Brussels, adding that, “We received together the information on the composition and structure of the committees.”
Paphos Mayor Savvas Vergas noted that his municipality is not modern, as is Aarhus. The first coordinating meeting with Jacob Bundsgaard will be held in Paphos to organize the actions by both sides. He added that the programs and all the procedures should be coordinated, in order to give all Europeans the opportunity to follow the events in both Paphos and Aarhus concurrently.
