Crete Eyes Arab, Israeli Markets

cretan productsOn the heels of a report showing a sharp rise in the exports of its products, Crete is targeting Arabic countries for further market expansion. On Jan. 16-17, the region of the four chambers of the island is going to welcome representatives of three leading super market chains operating in Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
According to AMNA, the visit is the second stage of the negotiations between the governor of the Crete Region, Stavros Arnaoutakis and the Lieutenant Governor, Theano Vrentzou with ministers of the Lebanese government aiming at exporting Cretan products to Middle East countries.
Arnaoutakis said that, “The Region of Crete with targeted actions and in partnership with some local organizations will promote popular products of Crete as well as the island’s tourism. Having cooperated in the past with Russia, Ukraine, Canada and European countries, the region of Crete is now extending its commercial activity to the Arab countries. ”
During their visit in Crete, officials from the large Arab market chains interested in trading in agricultural products will meet exporters of the island in the cities of Heraklion and Chania. At the end of February, Israeli businessmen working in food and super market trade, are expected to visit Crete, to have meetings concerning the import of Cretan products to their country.
