The newspaper Northern Territory News, published the Top 150 Most Powerful List, with the 150 most powerful figures in the Northern Territory of Australia, including seven Greek immigrants.
All of them come from Darwin, a city with a strong Greek presence.
Among the seven are the Paspaley family, the Territory’s richest pearling company ranking 15th on the list. It surely deserves great credit for what promises to be a spectacular green office block at the end of Darwin’s Smith Street Mall. Except for cattle stations, city property and hotels, pearls are still the center of the family empire.
Another immigrant of Greek descent ranking 22nd is John Halikos, who built a residential tower block next to his hotel on The Esplanade. Halikos has plans for other massive city center developments in Darwin.
