Greece Expects 1M More Tourists in 2013

corfuComing off a tough year in which many tourists stayed away because of political and social unrest, Greece is expecting a big rebound in 2013 with an increase of about one million more visitors, officials said, basing their estimates on airline reservations and information from travel agencies and sites.
The head of the Greek tourism organization SETE, Andreas Andreadis, said that Greece may surpass a total of 17 million visitors next year, welcome news for the biggest revenue producer the country has.
Tourism revenues in 2013 from incoming tourism may reach 11 billion euros ($14.5 billion) authorities said, which would make 2013 one of the best in recent years, following 11.6 billion euros ($15 billion) in 2008 and 11.3 billion euros.
If that happens, 2013 will be one of the best years in tourism profits, after 11.6 billion in 2008 and 11.3 billion ($14.9 billion) in 207.  Projections for 2013 show an increase of 1 billion euros, or $1.31 billion.
Andreadis said Greece was planning a well organized developmental strategy schedule in arrivals from abroad to attract investors and hoped for a reduction in Value Added Taxes for bookings, although the government has been reluctant to lose revenues from taxes.
