A Burmese survivor of the sinking of a ship off the Greek island of Lesbos in which 20 immigrants were drowned, included four children, told officials the boat overturned in bad weather. The unidentified man was picked up by the crew of a vessel taking part in a joint European operation called Poseidon – Sea Borders 2012.
The survivor was treated for hypothermia from having been in the chilly sea and hospitalized in Mytilene on Lesbos. Seven people are missing and the Greek Coast Guard was still searching for them on Dec. 16 although officials said they held out little hope because of continued bad seas and cold weather in the area.
