Actress and screenwriter Zoe Kazan, granddaughter of the late Greek-American director Elia Kazan, has received an Independent Spirit Awards nomination for Best Screenplay for her first feature script, “Ruby Sparks.”
Kazan, who also starred in the film, shopped the screenplay around Hollywood before it found a place with “Little Miss Sunshine” directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. The story revolves around a novelist who creates a female character for one of his books and “wills” her into real-life.
“Ruby Sparks” has been a favorite among critics. This is the film’s first nomination during the awards season.
Winners will be announced February 23 when the Independent Spirit Awards take place in Santa Monica, CA.
