Former MPs Change Jobs and Lives

A Greek Member of Parliament’s job is well-paid with a lot of perks, even after some symbolic cuts as they approve austerity measures that have impoverished much of the rest of the populace. But when they are not in office anymore, what do they do?
Former PASOK Socialist MP Christos Magoufis said he’s thinking of moving to Germany to work as a cook. Former Prime Minister George Papandreou, who is now a Member of Parliament, is raking in money with a second job, teaching at Harvard, and with a third job, giving speeches through an American agency for audiences who want to hear how he handled the economic crisis that led to his resignation after protests against his reign.
Former Deputy Foreign Minister and New Democracy MP, Theodoros Kassimis, made a different choice, the agricultural life in Nestani, Arkadia. Panagiotis Sgouridis, former Vice-President of the Parliament who took advantage of his family tradition in winemaking, is producing wine on a 100-acre farm in Avdira, Xanthi.
