Montreal Greek Film Festival Shines

This year’s Montreal Greek Film Festival was dedicated to the Italian community of Montreal, as apart from the Greek films, it aimed at promoting the cross-cultural relations between the closely-linked nationalities.

It finished with the Mediteranneo at the Rialto Theatre National Historic Site of Canada, which not only hosted new Greek films but also presented movies from the Greek classical cinema. Nikos Koutelidakis’s Christmas Tango and Menelaos Karamagkiolis’s JACE were the sensation of the festival.

The documentaries Twice a Stranger and Antikythera Mechanism attracted many scientists and students. “This year there was a 41% increase in new visitors,” Avra Georgiou, director of the festival, told AMNA. She said that this year it attracted many French-speaking, English-speaking and Greek-speaking Canadians.
